May was a great month with a good balance of work and play. I got to get away for a few days to BYU Women's Conference with my old roommate and bestie, Jacki--it was so fun to see her. We stayed in a house with 15 other ladies, many from my ward, and had a lot of fun and little sleep but left inspired from all the great classes.. My pregnant self felt jet lagged for a few days after I got home. I don't function well on 3-4 hours of sleep at night, but it was worth it!
Paul joined us for an evening at Disneyland. We went a couple of times this month because our passes are blocked out this summer and after summer baby will be here, and I'm guessing our Disney days will be limited. We had so much fun. The girls love everything about it and get so excited--they are the perfect ages to enjoy Disneyland. We stayed late for the Fantasmic show one night and didn't leave the park until 10pm. Gwen crashed in the stroller on the walk to the car--can't remember the last time that had happened.
Paul drops Gwen off at preschool on his way to work and Kate is a "late-bird" at school, so we have a little time together in the mornings. We've been walking/scootering to school and it's been a lot of fun. Kate will say things like "Mom, let's chat. What should be talk about." I love being with her. Below are her school pictures from the Fall and Spring. The school year went by so quickly!
We've enjoyed watching our garden come to life. One of my favorite things in our garden are two blueberry bushes we have in big pots. They are pretty to look at and even better that they produce tasty berries. Gwen is best at picking and eating them. Kate had her best friend from school and church, Anna, over for a special tea party.
These silly girls. Gwen is our night owl and decided she wanted to sleep on the hardwood floor at the top of the stairs one night? She brought bitty baby along for company.
The girls have been in a dance class together this Spring and had their recital at the park. The performed a dance about rainbows and were so excited about it. It's been nice having them be able to do activities together.
An essay I wrote a few years ago was published in hardback and it was exciting to get a copy of it! Some of my favorite mothers from Yale wrote essays about why they chose motherhood and their experiences transitioning to the role of a mother. I feel honored to be a part of this group! Many of them are dear friends and I miss our inspiring conversations at the playground.
Speaking of motherhood--I have the best job. I got to have breakfast with Gwen at her school for a mother's day celebration.
We spent a weekend in Palm Springs with family. We swam at the pool, the kids binged on tv, we ate good food and had fun going for walks and scootering. Until we tried to take 6 kids on a scooter ride/walk and they all crashed and burned and lots of band aids were required. Other than that it was a fun trip!
Memorial Day weekend was spent working on a few house projects--a new closet for baby, gardening, cleaning, etc--and picnics at the park with friends. We are ready to welcome Summer!
