At 14 months Kate seems much more like a little girl than a baby anymore. She is very independent and if you don’t keep your eye on her, she’ll be gone! Like in the library the other day, I was searching for a book that wasn’t where it was supposed to be meanwhile Kate is squirming in my arms. I let her down for a second and next thing I know she’s gone. What row of books did she go down? My heart started to race for a minute as I thought about all the creepy homeless men that hang out on the library steps. Luckily she hadn’t made it too far and even though she was squirmy and screaming, I didn’t let her down again.Kate is very sociable. She loves other people, especially little people. She runs up to little kids and says “hi” and wants to check out whatever they are doing. We were going on a “Kate” walk the other day. The kind where Kate leads the way (usually towards the nearest cat, steps or patch of dirt) and she approached two girls a few years older than her. They were playing on their tricycles and Kate had to get in on the action. She walks up, grabs the trike and tries to get on the back with the little girl. Luckily the little girls were flattered to be playing with a “baby” and didn’t take offense. She is also a little clueless about sharing etiquette. She doesn’t hesitate to take another child’s toy if she’s interested, even if it makes the other kid cry. And she’ll do this over and over again. We’ll have to start working on the sharing thing.
Kate likes lots of hugs and kisses. She really is a lover. She’ll be happily playing with toys while I’m working around the house, the next thing I know she’s whining at my leg. Tired, no. Hungry, no. Thirsty, no. Hugs, yes. She gets her hugs and runs back to the toys. I’m hoping that won’t go away anytime soon.
Kate is a girly girl. I can tell already. She’s very interested in my makeup and already she managed to open it up and smear it all over the bathroom rug and her pants. Every morning while I’m getting ready she goes for the makeup bag and likes to pull everything out and look at it. Kate also loves her baby. She carries it around the house in her make-shift sling and gives it kisses saying “be-be”. She notices right away if I’m wearing anything different than the usual pearl stud earrings and loves to have bracelets put on her. Kate also loves shoes. Any kind of shoes. She likes to play in my shoes, Paul’s shoes and her own shoe drawer. We’ve had to start closing our bedroom door or before I know it she will have drug our shoes all over the house.
Kate is a lot of fun. It’s so easy to make her giggle and she loves to smile. Kate, we love you! Oh and we love your new pigtails too!
