January is one of my favorite months in California. We have cold nights, mixed with some relatively cold days and we always get a stretch of 70 degree weather. The sunshine feels so good and we love being outdoors.

Kate has been asking for a sewing lesson so the girls and I did some hand sewing one afternoon. It's fun to watch their little hands work and their creative minds that get excited about new projects.

January is also a month of birthdays at our house. Paul celebrated his birthday with dinner at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse--a definite treat for both of us!
And our sweet Kate turned 6! She is so fun to celebrate with. We took her to Disneyland after school on her birthday. She loved all the attention at school on her birthday and being a summer birthday, myself, I remember feeling sad that I didn't have school on my birthday. I'm glad she gets to experience being special at school.

Instead of a friends party this year, we took her to the American Girl Cafe for lunch with her dolls. Gwen was so excited to accompany. It turned out to be a beautiful afternoon and Kate loved everything about her birthday lunch with her dolls and walking around the American Girl store.

Some things I want to remember about Kate at age 6:
She is very responsible and is usually a great helper around the house.
She's always the first to go to sleep and first to wake up.
She LOVES books and will sit and listen to stories as long as you will read to her.
She is doing great with her own reading and was so excited to pass off all her sight words at school.
Her friends are very important to her and she loves eating lunch at school.
She is my sensitive snuggler and always wants more hugs and kisses.
She loves arts and crafts and will usually pick that over most toys.
She's a great big sister and looks out for Gwen.
We love having Kate in our family.

Happy birthday, Kate! Sounds like she had a magical day! It's sweet to read about how she is now--although I knew Kate when she was a baby, it sounds like she is still that sweet, tender little girl that she always has been! Wishing we could have her over to play! (But, really, you can just enjoy the beautiful weather and be glad that you aren't shivering with us in CT!)
Oh! The American Girl Store! You know that the main reason I'm happy about having a girl so that we can one day make that special trip to the American Girl cafe. Happy birthday little Kate!
Happy Birthday Kate. We're glad you had a great birthday and many, many more to come! We miss you all.
