What a dream trip this was! We started in Seattle visiting the Nelsons for the weekend. We ate seafood on the water, rode the Seattle eye in the sky ferris wheel at sunset, hiked through the rainforest to twin falls, went searching for frogs, played games and enjoyed spending time with our friends.
After a fun weekend in beautiful Seattle we took a train on a scenic ride to Vancouver where we boarded our cruise ship! We met up with family and everyone was so excited to be there.
We all felt spoiled the entire trip. The food was delicious. Mickey Mouse Ice Cream bars for dessert every night, amazing service, no dishes, no cleaning, it really felt like vacation!
Kate and Sara tried snails for the first time and had mixed reactions. We loved seeing the characters at the character breakfast and seeing Princess' around the ship. That may have been Clara's favorite part. We saw amazing broadway style shows after dinner, watched the Jungle Book in 3D, Alice through the looking glass and watched cartoons from bed every morning.
Our first stop was through Tracy Arm where we got up close to the glacier. Clara loved seeing Elsa's ice castle floating in the water. The scenery was unreal! Waterfalls cascading down through the mountains, eagles flying overhead, whales in the distance, blue blue water and green trees everywhere. It was so beautiful what we could see from the ship.
The kids had fun in the kids club and loved the unlimited soft serve ice cream machines. We had one day warm enough for swimming. Clara went to the nursery one evening while the adults went to the adults only restaurant, Palo. The homemade pasta and chocolate souffle are still on my mind!
Our first stop was Skagway. We went dry land dog sledding and learned all about the crazy dog sled drivers who go through the snow in freezing temps (sounds miserable) and the kids had fun petting the puppies and exploring.
Our second stop was in Juneau. We booked a last minute excursion that turned out to be a highlight of the trip. We rode in a small float plane above 5 glaciers to Taku Lodge. A remote lodge near a large glacier right on a river. We went hiking through blueberry bushes and forest and then went inside the lodge to have a delicious lunch of salmon that was caught in the river the day before. While we were inside eating we saw a bear out the window! It was fascinating to watch the bear lick the salmon off the grill and climb the trees.
Our third stop was Ketchikan. We took a bus to see totem poles at a Alaska State park. We had fun naming the strange looking poles and exploring the tidepools. There were enormous slugs everywhere. Eww! Kate may have put one down Gwen's jacket...
Then that afternoon we went to the lumberjack show. Not my favorite activity from the trip, but the kids had a good time.
We loved our trip and are so thankful to Mimi and Papa for making it happen! So many great memories. Thank you!!
