We tagged along with Paul last weekend on a business/pleasure trip to Albuquerque, NM for the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival. The company Paul works for owns a Krispy Kreme store there, and was one of the sponsors for the festival. The trip began with donuts (see Kate eating one in the picture above) because what else makes a 3 year old happy at 4:30 AM. That's what time we drug the girls out of bed to get up in time to see the balloons launch at sunrise. They were a little grumpy at first, but cheered up as soon as they saw balloons. And donuts, of course.
It was early and cold in the morning. I've been in Southern California too long, I forgot that in other places if the afternoon high is 75, it can still be 45 at 6am. We stayed warm though, and watching all of the balloons was worth it. The kids loved it.
We spent the rest of the weekend exploring Albuquerque, eating, spending time with family and napping. The girls were pretty easy to travel with--minus Gwen and her squirms on the flight.
And we ended the weekend with, you guessed it, donuts!

You are one brave mom waking your kids up at 4:30!
Love the last picture of Gwen.
