California Coast

Last weekend we took a trip up the coast to Ventura and Santa Barbara. We drove the scenic route through Santa Monica and Malibu. We got lucky and had gorgeous, 75 degree weather. It felt like Summer.
This is Kate and her best friend, Heidi, from school. Friday morning before we left, Kate's school had their annual "Spring Fling" and the kids loved it. They decorated cookies, did spin art, made pinwheels, ate snowcones and popcorn. Gwen was happy to join in on the fun. At Kate's doctors appointment back in January she was in the 90% for height for 4 year olds. This picture shows it. She towers over most of her friends!

On our way through Malibu (which was beautiful and very remote feeling) we stopped for a "hike". We had plans to go to see a waterfall, but the girls were more interested in picking wildflowers and chasing lizards, so we never made it. Saturday we spent time at the beach, happened upon a street fair in Santa Barbara, drove through the hills and ate frozen yogurt.
On our way home we stopped at the Noah's Ark exhibit at the Skirball Cultural Center. I had been wanting to visit this for a while and it was fantastic! Everything was interactive and creative--it was fun for adults and kids. We picked up lunch at Whole Foods in Bel Air and it was fun driving by the fancy houses and wondering who lived inside. This past week Kate had Spring Break and it's been fun having her home in the mornings with us. I'm looking forward to fun outings this summer!
